Reading a message in your own language

A message written in another language shows a Translate link. Nothing is translated until somebody asks, and the original is always a tap away.

How it works

Paddl knows the language each person reads, because they chose it for the app. When a message was written in a different one, a small Translate link appears under it. Tap it to read it in yours, and Show original to go back.

Nothing is translated until somebody asks for it, and a translation is kept so the same message is never paid for twice.

The languages

English (UK and US), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Spanish, French, German, Thai, Tagalog, Tamil, Arabic and Simplified Chinese.

What is not translated

  • Names and links are carried across untouched, so an @mention is still the person and a link still works.

  • System lines and cards are already in each reader's language, so they need no translating.

  • A deleted message has nothing to translate.

  • Translation is switched on per business. If nobody in your business sees it, ask whoever administers Paddl.

  • It only appears on somebody else's message, in a language different from yours. Your own messages never show it.

  • Check your language under Profile in the app: if it is set to the same language the message was written in, there is nothing to translate.

Is it perfect?

It is a machine translation, good enough for a working conversation and not a substitute for a professional translation of a policy or a contract. If something important is being said, say it in both languages or check the person understood.
