Business & legal
Your insurance, licences, lease, contracts, business rates, tax reliefs and legal guidance sit together under Business & legal in the sidebar. Each one is a row of its own, and a red dot on Insurance, Licences & permits or Lease & property means something required is missing: by law, by a licence or lease, or a lease for a site you rent.
What we check
Insurance, Licences & permits, Lease & property and Contracts each open on a list of what a business like yours is expected to hold. Paddl works it out from each site's type and what it knows about the site, such as whether you lease it, put tables outside or play music. Each line shows its status:
Held or Renews with a date: you have it, and the date is when it needs renewing.
Missing: it is required (by law, your licence or your lease) and nothing on file covers it. These lines are red.
Worth considering: recommended rather than required, such as cyber cover or a pest control contract. These never turn red.
To confirm: Paddl needs one answer about the site first, such as "Do you lease or own it?", or a document might cover it but Paddl cannot be sure, such as a combined policy that may or may not include buildings cover. Answer it on the line, such as It's covered, and the list updates.
Upload a document from its line and Paddl reads it and files it in the right place. The figures over the list filter it: click Missing to see only the gaps.
When something does not apply
Owners can mark a line Doesn't apply with a reason, for one site or the whole business. It folds away under the list, stays on record with who marked it and why, and Paddy stops raising it in every later analysis. See Marking something as not applicable.
The analysis
Each page has an Analysis view next to its list. It opens on Paddy's verdict, then What Paddy found: each finding ranked, with the document it comes from, any date or amount, and the one thing to do about it. It runs every Monday and after you upload a document, and you can ask for it again once a week per site. Mark a finding Done or Not applicable and it stays that way in later analyses. See Paddy's analysis.
Insurance
Paddl reads each policy's provider, policy number, cover period, limits, excess and key exclusions, and its claims and broker numbers, which are listed under Key contacts. Employers' liability below the legal £5m minimum shows as below the minimum. Where a lease makes you insure the building, the Analysis view shows what the lease asks of your cover.
Licences & permits
The Licences view checks the premises licence, the designated premises supervisor, the music licence, late night refreshment, the pavement licence, food business registration and Challenge 25 training against what each site does. The weekly licensing check has its own view; see Licensing records.
Lease & property
Each site you lease should have its lease on file. Answer We own it and the site drops off the list. For a site, the Analysis view has its rent history and a finding for each break, rent review or lease end coming up, and for a break you can use, the date to serve notice by. Remind me on that date puts it on your calendar.
Set the dates and forget the diary. Once the renewal and expiry dates are captured, Paddl reminds you in advance, so renewals stop slipping through the cracks.
