Finding Your Way Around

The sidebar and its sections, searching for any page, the Settings home, the bar at the bottom of a phone screen, and what the colours of Paddl's messages mean.

The sidebar

The sidebar lists the parts of Paddl your business uses, grouped under Operations, Compliance and Protection. A row with an arrow opens a list of its own pages in place of the main list; Back at the top returns you. A part you have switched off under Settings > Modules is not in the sidebar at all.

Folding a section

Click a section heading to fold its rows away, and click it again to open it. A folded heading shows how many things are waiting in it, or a red dot, so nothing is hidden from you. Paddl remembers what you folded in this browser, and the section holding the page you are on always opens.

Press Ctrl K (⌘ K on a Mac) or click Search at the top of the sidebar to find any page, person, document or help article. Pages are named with the section they belong to, such as Food safety · Records, so pages with the same name are easy to tell apart.

  • Before you type, search shows the pages you opened recently and the places most people go: today's tasks, alerts, Readiness and the EHO visit page.

  • If a page has moved, searching for its old name finds the new one and says what it used to be called, for example was Hygiene records.

  • A part of Paddl that is switched off appears under Turn on, which opens Settings > Modules at that card.

Settings

Settings opens a home page that lists every setting, grouped into your business, the features you use, the settings that belong to one feature, and your own account. Each card shows what is set now, such as how many sites you have or when your plan renews.

The settings that belong to one feature, such as who can see sales figures, the rota's labour cost or team chat, are cards on the Settings home and sit under More on that feature's own page. Some settings are for the business owner only.

On a phone or tablet

On a phone or a tablet held upright, a bar along the bottom of the screen has the five places you open every shift:

Button

Opens

Home

Your dashboard: readiness and what needs you.

Today

Today's tasks, with the number that are overdue.

Alerts

Alerts, and the Inbox of reports to review, handovers and signatures. The number is everything waiting for you.

Rota

The rota, with leave requests and swaps waiting on you. When your business does not use the rota, this button is Team.

Menu

The full sidebar, with the location picker and search.

Team chat is the speech bubble at the top of the screen when your business uses it.

Messages and what their colours mean

Paddl tells you things in the same few ways on the web and in the app. A note on a page sits in a white card with a coloured icon, and the colour always means the same thing:

Colour

Means

Red

Something is broken or blocked, such as a failed payment or a sensor that has stopped reporting.

Amber

Something to sort out before it becomes a problem, such as a check nobody has set up or a document about to expire.

Blue

Worth knowing, with nothing to do, such as a contractor visiting today.

Green

Something is done and settled, such as a plan signed off.

Grey

A quiet note or a tip, such as a page that has moved.

Teal

A suggestion from Paddy, such as details read from a document you uploaded.

  • Only grey and blue notes can be closed with the cross. Red and amber ones stay until the thing they are about is fixed.

  • When you save, send or delete something, a short message slides in at the top of the screen to say it worked, or what went wrong, and goes by itself.

  • A problem with something you typed shows next to the field, in red, and clears when you fix it.

  • Before anything is deleted or cannot be undone, Paddl asks first, and the button says exactly what it will do, such as Delete supplier. The red button is the one that cannot be undone.
