One page for health and safety

Open Health & safety in the sidebar. It is a single Records page for what a health and safety inspector reads: the accident book, the incident register, fitness to work and your written policy. COSHH keeps its own item in the sidebar, and risk assessments stay on the one Risk Assessments page.

What it holds

Accidents and near misses

Your accident book: injuries on site, to staff or the public, and near-misses where nobody was hurt but could have been.

Incidents

Serious events you may need for the police or a solicitor: violence, theft, a safeguarding concern.

Fitness to work

A team member off sick: their symptoms, how long they stay away and when they came back.

All three are reports, filed when something happens, so they never carry a dot: a quiet month is not a gap. Each new report goes to the site's managers in the Inbox to review, and you can export the chip you are on. For how to fill in an accident or incident, see Reporting Incidents, Accidents & Near-Misses.

Fitness to work

Anyone who handles food and has vomiting or diarrhoea should stay away from work until 48 hours after the symptoms stop. A fitness to work report is how you show you applied that rule. Record who is unwell, the date, the symptoms (vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, an infected wound or something else), the exclusion period and the return date, with any notes. A manager reviews each one, and it is exported as its own section of the Audit Pack.

Staff can file one from the Report tab in the app, or a manager can file it for them when they ring in sick.

Your health and safety policy

A business with five or more employees must have a written health and safety policy. Upload yours under Documents in the Health & Safety Policy category. Every venue is expected to hold one, so the category shows a dot until you do, and the Records page has a Documents line that takes you there. A policy has a Review by date rather than an expiry: set it, and Paddl reminds you when the review falls due.

RIDDOR

Some accidents must also be reported to the HSE under RIDDOR: a death; a specified injury such as most fractures, an amputation or a serious burn; an injury that keeps a worker off their normal duties for more than seven consecutive days (report within 15 days); a member of the public taken from your premises to hospital for treatment; and certain dangerous occurrences. Report online on the HSE website. Paddl does not file for you, so write the HSE reference into the report's actions when you have it.

For an inspector

Readiness scores the Health and safety frame from this page and the H&S policy, and the Audit Pack exports accident and incident records and fitness to work as separate sections. If you cannot see the page, the module is switched off under Settings > Modules.
