We keep getting logged out on a tablet

Why a shared tablet seemed to log itself out or "expire" mid-shift, and how the device PIN replaces that.

The symptom

A shared tablet keeps signing itself out during a shift, and staff have to log back in, sometimes with a password nobody on shift knows. It can look like the "session expired".

What was happening

On older versions, a shared tablet automatically signed out after about 15 minutes of no activity. On a venue tablet under one shared login, that ended everyone's access until someone re-entered the account password. It was not a real session expiry, and it is separate from the way the app keeps your login alive over a week.

The fix

Newer versions lock an idle tablet instead of signing it out. The login stays put and anyone on shift taps a four-digit device PIN to carry on. Update Paddl Assist to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play to get this.

  • The first lock asks you to set the PIN; after that it just asks for it.

  • Typing into a form counts as activity, so a long check no longer looks idle.

  • Forgotten the PIN? Use Forgotten the PIN? Sign out on the lock screen, or a manager can reset it under Profile > Security.

Full detail is in Signing In, Face ID & Shared Tablets.
