A routine is not generating any tasks at all

When a routine creates no tasks for anyone, the cause is usually the routine setup itself rather than who can see it.

The symptom

A routine exists but creates no tasks for anyone, at any location. This is different from a routine that some people cannot see. Here nobody gets it.

Quick checks

  1. Is the routine switched on? A paused routine generates nothing.

  2. Does it have a schedule and at least one location? A routine with no schedule or no target location has nothing to generate against.

Full diagnostic

Check these in order under Routines.

  1. The routine is active. Switch it on if it is paused.

  2. The schedule is set and valid. Open the routine and confirm the frequency and times are filled in. A routine saved without a complete schedule will not produce tasks.

  3. It targets at least one location. A routine has to apply to a location to generate tasks there. Add the locations it should run at.

  4. Each location has a timezone. Tasks are timed against the location timezone. If a location has no timezone set, times can land on the wrong part of the day. Set the timezone under Locations.

  5. Give it time. Tasks are prepared ahead in batches, not the instant you save. If you have just created or changed a routine, allow a short while and check again before assuming something is wrong.

Tip: if you only want the routine on certain days, that is normal scheduling, not a fault. It simply will not appear on the days you left out.
