How to set up your allergen matrix, import data in bulk, and keep it updated.

What Is the Allergen Matrix?

The Allergen Matrix lets you track the 14 UK allergens across all your menu items. Staff can quickly look up allergen information in the app, and the data feeds into the AI assistant for answering customer queries.

Adding Menu Items

  1. Go to Allergens in the admin panel

  2. Click Add Item

  3. Enter the menu item name

  4. Tick each allergen that the item contains

  5. Save the item

Bulk Importing Allergens

If you have a large menu, you can import allergen data in bulk:

  1. Go to Allergens in the admin panel

  2. Click Import

  3. Download the CSV template

  4. Fill in your menu items and allergen data

  5. Upload the completed CSV

Important: When importing from a spreadsheet, make sure the allergen columns match the template exactly. Mismatched columns can cause allergens to be assigned incorrectly (e.g. gluten showing as milk). Always download and use the provided template.

Editing Existing Items

Click on any menu item in the allergen list to edit its allergens. Changes are saved immediately and staff will see the updated information in the app.

Adding New Menu Items

When new items are added to your menu, simply add them to the allergen matrix in the admin panel. There's no limit to the number of items you can track.

Allergen Training

All food handlers must complete allergen training. The FSA provides free online training at allergytraining.food.gov.uk. You can add a link to this training in your Documents section and require staff sign-off to confirm completion.
