Connecting Square

Connect your Square account so takings arrive every half hour, with thirteen months of history to start from.

Square is connected from Settings > Integrations. Only the account owner can do it. A till gives Paddl access to every site's takings, so a manager opening that page sees "Owners only" rather than a button.

Before you start

  • You are signed in to Paddl as the owner.

  • You have the Square login that owns the locations, not a staff login for one till.

  • Your sites exist under Settings > Locations, because the next step pairs each Square location with one of them.

Connecting

  1. Open Settings > Integrations and press Connect Square.

  2. Square asks you to sign in and to approve Paddl reading your orders. Approve.

  3. You land back in Paddl. The connection shows Connected and, underneath, Pulling history….

  4. Map each Square location to a Paddl site and save. See Mapping Square locations to your sites.

What happens next

The last thirteen months of completed orders pull in behind the scenes. The card says History complete when that has finished; you do not need to stay on the page. From then on, takings arrive every half hour through the day.

Because the history reaches back thirteen months, most sites have well over the eight weeks of daily takings a forecast needs. The first forecast is built in that night's run. See Reading the sales forecast.

If it did not work

  • You cancelled on Square's side. Nothing was connected. Press Connect Square again when you are ready.

  • That link had expired. The approval took too long or the tab was reused. Start again from the Integrations page.

  • Square could not be reached. Wait a minute and try again. If it keeps happening, see The till is not syncing.

Sync now, reconnect, disconnect

Sync now asks for the latest orders straight away rather than waiting for the next half hour. Reconnect sits at the top of the card while a connection is live; it runs the same approval again, which is how you re-authorise after changing the Square password or moving the account. If Square has withdrawn access, the pill reads Access was revoked and the button reads Connect Square again: press it, approve, and the mapping and history are kept. Disconnect stops new takings arriving. Everything already pulled stays, because it is your history and the forecast keeps working from it.

Connecting the till shows nobody the figures. Who can see sales is a separate, owner-only setting. See Who can see sales and labour cost.
