Once Square is connected and mapped, Paddl reads completed orders and turns them into takings by the hour for each site. This article says exactly what comes in, what does not, and what each figure is used for.
What is read
From Square | What Paddl does with it |
|---|---|
Completed orders, with their time | Net sales for each hour and for the day |
Refunds | Taken off, so net sales is after refunds |
Order count | Orders per day on the takings and forecast pages |
Card and cash tenders | The card and cash columns on Sales > Takings |
Location and its time zone | Which site, and which day an order near midnight belongs to |
The last thirteen months | Pulled once, on connection, so the forecast has history from the first night |
What is not read
Card numbers, customer names and customer contact details are never requested. Paddl does not read your Square staff list, your catalogue or your settings, and it writes nothing back: it cannot create, change or refund an order.
How often
Every half hour through the day. The connection card shows Last synced with the time, and Sync now asks for the latest orders straight away.
Settling
A till that loses signal keeps taking orders and sends them when it reconnects, sometimes a day or two later. So Paddl treats a day as still settling for three days after it ends, and marks it Settling on the takings page and in the forecast notes. The figure can still move in that window. After three days it is final.
What each figure feeds
Feature | Needs | Where |
|---|---|---|
Takings, day by day | The connection | Sales > Takings |
Sales forecast | Eight weeks of daily takings | Sales > Forecast, the rota header, Ask Paddy |
Demand band | Four weeks of hourly takings, drawn from up to thirteen | Under each day on the rota |
Quiet-window hints | The same four weeks | The time field in the routine editor |
Weighted open-shift alerts | A forecast | Alerts, and push or email |
Labour as a share of sales | A forecast and pay rates | The rota header and Rota > Labour cost |
Alerts about the connection itself
Three alerts exist so the till never stops quietly: Till disconnected, Till sync failed and No takings received. What each means and what to do is in The till is not syncing.
Entered takings win. If somebody enters a figure by hand for a day the till also covered, the entered figure is the one used and the till figure is shown as hidden. See Entering takings by hand or from a spreadsheet.
